2019 EMPA Video Contest Rules
Submissions: All entries should be on a CD/DVD/SD Card or USB flash drive and sent to Mel Thomas for judging. Mail to Mel Thomas, P.O. Box 447, Geneva, NY 14456 or ship to Mel Thomas, 62 Slosson Lane, Geneva, NY 14456.

Deadline: Tuesday, November 15, 2016 for all entries so the panel of judges can have time to properly consider the entries.
Eligibility: Only work created and produced after November 10, 2015 is eligible for judging. All persons (Talent) appearing on camera OR the Producer must be EMPA members in good standing by December 15, 2016. Multiple hosts of a “racing show” must be EMPA members but segment reporters, interviewees, voice over announcers, guests and other non-broadcast personnel are not required to be EMPA members.
Only one entry per class for EMPA members but no limit for classes entered. All entries must be properly labeled for Category and Class and be able to be played back on a DVD player or computer by the judges.
Label info for entries must include entrant’s name, phone number of contact person, Class, Title of Entry/Show Segment/ Show Date of first showing if affiliated with a broadcast or TV station. Info can be on a 3 x 5 card or piece of paper; a Sharpie pen can be used to mark info on a DVD.
Categories and Classes for Entries: BROADCAST: Motorsports Programs, Series or Segments produced for TV content. Class 1 – News Segments – Motorsports Related Class 2 – Local/Regional program devoted entirely to a motorsport event Class 3 – National program devoted to a specific motorsport event INDEPENDENT/NON-BROADCAST: Motorsports Related, may be edited or unedited Class 1 – Single Camera coverage of an entire race event, weekly or special Class 2 – Multi Camera coverage of an entire event or series race Class 3 – Non Event/Compilation Video – could be a music video, crash or highlight video, a documentary video or race series highlight video ONLINE MEDIA/RADIO – Motorsports programs or segments produced for the Internet or Radio Broadcast. Class 1 – Video Events/ Webcasts – Race events, highlight shows or short news segments, Youtube or results programs covering a variety of tracks or events. (Not broadcast on TV.) Class 2 – Radio/Audio – Audio only Motorsports related results, talk or news show on Radio or Internet.
JUDGING: Professor Steve Keeler, Broadcast Department Chair, at Cayuga Community College in Auburn, NY will assemble a group of judges with video and media production experience to judge all entries and create a scoring system to determine the winners. He has done this format for many other contests and the process works very well.
