Mario Gabriel Andretti was born Feb 28 1940 in Montona, Italy.

Mario and his brother Aldo moved to Nazerath Pa in 1955 and started racing at Nazerath Speedway (dirt).

His most notable achievements are winning the United States Automobile Club (USAC) championship in 1965, '66, '69), the Daytona 500 in 1967, the Sebring Grand Prix in 1967 & 1970, theIndianapolis 500 in 1969, and the Formula I world driving championship in 1978 . He retired from competition in 1994. His sons Jeff & Michael, his nephew John and Mario's grandson Marco have carried on his racing legacy.
