Bill began racing in 1934. In 1936 he lost his left leg in a competition crash but this did not stop him from becoming a legendary midget championship driver.

He won the ARDC championship in '40, 45, '46 and '48.

He competed in three Indy 500's from 1950-1952.

He lost his life in a sprint car crash at Allentown, PA on Sept 20 1952.
